Putting the most recent restoration in to context:

1860 – working windmill operated by James Anstiss.

1900 – becoming derelict. One sail missing and the fantail  blown off the previous year. The mill was put up for sale in 1912 and progressively deteriorated.

1974 – Three sails missing and no fantail. The building had been virtually untouched for more than 70 years.

Quainton Windmill Society was formed and the first restoration  took 19 years.
